GOAL VOTED BEST EVER

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney’s goal against Manchester City only a few months has been voted as the best goal in the 20 seasons of the Premier league.

Rooney scored a wonderful bicycle kick, which was nominated in the goal of the past two decades category.

The Premier league is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Wayne Rooney’s goal has nominated alongside Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp’s goal against Newcastle back in 2002 and also the wonderful strike from Arsenal striker Thierry Henry against Manchester United in 2000. This is the second time a Manchester United player has won the award after David Beckham won the 10 year celebratory award for his goal against Wimbledon in 2002.

Wayne Rooney scored a bicycle kick from a Nani cross against Manchester City at Old Trafford. His goal recorded 26% of the votes, while Dennis Bergkamp’s sublime skills and finish against Newcastle turned him 19% of the votes. Meanwhile, Arsenal striker Thierry Henry recorded 15% of the votes for this remarkable goal against Manchester United. Thierry Henry received the ball from the outside of the box with his back to goal. He managed to stun everyone with an audacious long-range effort from about 25 yards out of the goal with his back to goal.

“I grew up watching the Premier League so to be voted the best goal in the history of the Premier League is a great feeling. There’s so many good goals in that shortlist, goals that I watched in my living room as a kid: Alan Shearer’s goal, Paolo Di Canio’s, Tony Yeboah’s, David Beckham’s. To be competing with them and winning is a great honour for me and something I’m very proud of. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the fans that voted for me,” Rooney said.

ROONEY TARGETS RECORD

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that he is targeting the record set by Sir Bobby Charlton at Manchester United many years ago.

Wayne Rooney has become one of the main players at Manchester United, and he has so far scored 28 goals in this season alone. He looks on course to beat the record of Dennis Viollet and George Best when it comes to the most number of goals scored for Manchester United.

Dennis Viollet and George Best are currently in the fourth place, while Sir Bobby Charlton leads the record. Wayne Rooney’s 175 goals for Manchester United puts him just for behind Dennis Viollet and George Best.

The 26-year-old striker is just reaching the prime of his career and is expected to become a legend at Old Trafford. However, he is targeting the record of 249 goals by Sir Bobby Charlton as his ultimate target. Even though it may take a while before Wayne Rooney ultimately achieves the target, many expect him to reach it pretty quickly if he carries on in the same vein of form.

Rooney has been one of the reasons for Manchester United to be challenging to the top of the table, despite the huge number of injury problems they have faced this season.

“Of course. It would be an unbelievable feeling if I could get his record. I’m still a long way away but hopefully, one day, I will be able to do it. They (Viollet and Best) are obviously club legends and to be in touching distance of their goal tally is something I’m really proud of and hopefully I will overtake them soon,” Rooney said recently. Rooney may not have scored in the 2-0 win over Blackburn recently, but the England striker was more than happy to see United get all three points.

ROONEY BACK IN THE GOALS

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is back among the goals after scoring against Wolverhampton Wanderers in an English Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The talismanic United forward has not been among the goals since the middle of September, a period stretching 723 minutes and his two goals against Wolves means he has ended his goal scoring drought this season that saw him begin with a bang and scoring two hat-tricks in successive matches against Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea. The goals cap off a good weekend for Rooney who saw his ban in the Euro 2012 reduced to 2 matches from 3 matches after an appeal, which means that he will definitely go to the Euros with the England squad.

One of the main reasons attributed for Wayne Rooney going through this dry spell in the English Premier League is that he has mostly been deployed as a central attacking midfielder by manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has been left extremely short of numbers in the midfield area with injuries to Tom Cleverly, Anderson, Darren Fletcher and the indifferent form of Michael Carrick.

However, Rooney himself was happy that he was given that role as he himself thinks himself to be capable enough of playing the role that was played for so many years by the now retired Paul Scholes but The Red Devils suffered heavily due to the lack of fire power up front in the absence of Rooney and their results also suffered, having been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by lowly FC Basel of Switzerland.

Now that United will only have to play in the UEFA Europa League and the English Premier League, Sir Alex can play Wayne Rooney upfront and if he keeps his scoring form going, stopping him will be one mean feat.
