BLIND BACKS TEAMMATE ROONEY

The Three Lions and The Red Devils skipper, Wayne Rooney has received varying degrees of support and criticism regarding his recent run of games, with many questioning his relevance in both teams.

The embattled striker has only 7 goals to his name this season and is set to return after a knee injury. His record of not picking up instantly upon return from injury adds salt to injury.

Team-mate, Daley Blind has risen in his defense. Blind told reporters that: “When he is fit you are definitely going to need him he brings something special to the team. He is exceptional. He has exceptional qualities and can make something better. For me, it is not even a question.”

Everton Midfielder, Ross Barkley also joined his defense. Barkley told the Telegraph: “Wayne is the captain, he leads the side. He has the experience and he passes it on to the younger lads in the side.” He supported his argument by saying Rooney brings the required experience to the English side. “He helps us younger lads with the experience he has had in the past tournaments and qualifying stages,” Barkley added.

Rooney’s relevance has come under serious scrutiny and he may not make it if a new manager comes at the season end. One of the widely touted players to take his place at Manchester United is current rave of the moment, Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker is one of the top goal scorers this season in the EPL.
The Red Devils were interested in the forward last year but ended up giving Rooney the benefit if the doubt. The striker is reported to be open to a move from his current team, Everton. Harry Kane is also been linked to Manchester United, especially with his current performance. With 21 goals this season in the EPL, he sits atop the goal scorers’ chart.
