Jesse Lingard says that striker Wayne Rooney is likely to resume Training

Jesse Lingard says that striker Wayne Rooney is likely to resume training after the international break.

The star striker has been available for Manchester United in the last month. His last appearance was in the 2-1 loss against Sunderland in the middle of February. He has been unable to play because of a knee injury. In his absence, United have made some good progress in the league table and have recently confirmed this with a derby win against Manchester City. 18-year-old striker Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win.

United have not really missed Rooney in the last month and this could surprise many. However,Lingard admitted that Rooney is a valuable addition to any squad even when he is not playing at his 100% best. The 2015-16 campaign is fast turning out into another abysmal campaign for the Red Devils. They were expected to reach their former glory days after spending more than £ 200 million in transfer fees on new players. However, the club’s continued struggle to even qualify for the Champions League might come as a surprise.

Lingard says that the rise of young talents like Rashford gives a lot of hope to other young players in the squad.Lingard has four goals in 17 appearances this season. “He should be back after the international break. We have a lot of players coming back. That’s a massive boost for the squad,” said Lingard. “Marcus is grounded. He has to keep his feet on the ground and I have told him that already. We look after the young ones and to see Marcus doing well is a great boost for all the club and the homegrown talent coming through,” continued the midfielder about young sensation Rashford, who has three goals in four league outings.
