FERDINAND LABELLED BEST PREMIER LEAGUE DEFENDER

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has been named the best defender in the history of the Premier League by Wayne Rooney. Ferdinand and Rooney were teammates at Manchester United for several years.


Wayne Rooney talked about Ferdinand while he was on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports as he shed more light on his recent comments about the former Manchester United defender. During a black-tie dinner in Manchester at the end of last month, Rooney had described Ferdinand as a top player before adding that his compatriot was arrogant. In addition to spending many years at the Theatre of Dreams together, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand were also teammates for the England team. They were in the England squad to several major tournaments including the European Championship and the World Cup.

Responding to the earlier comments from Rooney on his VIBE with FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand laughed off the arrogant jibes from the Derby County manager as he said that they argued on the pitch as Manchester United players.
Ferdinand and Rooney spent nine years together at Manchester United on the back of the transfer that took the former to the Theatre of Dreams from boyhood club Everton. Wayne Rooney became a Manchester United player in the summer of 2004 having impressed as a teenager at the Euro 2004 tournament in Portugal. He was one of the breakout stars of the tournament as his England team crashed out at the quarterfinal stage.Rooney met Ferdinand at Old Trafford a few years after his senational transfer from rivals Leeds United. They were both at the club until the summer of 2013 when Ferdinand left the club on a free transfer at the end of his contract. Manchester United recorded their last Premier League title triumph till date in Rio Ferdinand’s last season at the club.
