Will Wayne Rooney go to another Premier League club?

Wayne Rooney has lost his place in the Manchester United starting lineup. The forward has been in decline for a while now, and it seems that he is no longer important to United. The 31-year-old, who has also operated as a midfielder, has started only nine Premier League matches for the Red Devils so far this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists in the process. During the 2015-16 campaign, Rooney scored eight goals and created 42 chances in 28 league matches for the Old Trafford outfit.

Rooney has been on the books of United since 2004 and has a contract until June 2019, but the England international has consistently been linked with moves away from Old Trafford. There have been reports of him moving to China, while his former club Everton have been linked with a summer bid. It seems that the 31-year-old’s time at United is coming to an end. Even if Rooney plays his part in guiding Jose Mourinho’s side back into the Champions League, it is hard to see him remain part of the Portuguese manager’s plans for the 2017-18 campaign.

Even if Rooney plays his part in guiding Jose Mourinho’s side back into the Champions League, it is hard to see him remain part of the Portuguese manager’s plans for the 2017-18 campaign.

Despite being in his early 30s, Rooney still has the quality to play at the top level. A Premier League title-challenging United next season may not have space for the veteran forward, but the former Everton star could still do a job for other clubs in the English top flight. What do they say? Form is temporary; class is permanent.

Below, we have outlined some of the clubs in the Premier League who should make a move for Rooney in the summer transfer window:

Everton
Everton may not be able to break into the top six of the Premier League this season, but the Merseyside outfit are planning big things in the future. Under Ronald Koeman, the Toffees are aiming to compete for the Champions League places in the coming years, and Rooney would be a good addition to the squad. What Everton lack at the moment are players who have experience of playing at the very top level, such as the Champions League, and of winning trophies. The 31-year-old has won the Premier League title five times, the FA Cup once, and the Champions League on one occasion. Moreover, Rooney started his professional club career at Everton, and the Goodison Park faithful still have fond memories of him. Going back ‘home’ to Everton would work for both the club and the player. The veteran would also be able guide the plethora of young and talented players that Everton have at the moment, such as Ross Barkley and Tom Davies.

West Ham United
West Ham United are having a disappointing season, but they could still end up in the top ten of the Premier League this season. The Hammers are 11/2 to finish in the top half of the table with the likes of Ladbrokes, who are also offering up to £50 in matched bets for new customers. The London outfit, though, will need to make changes to their squad in the summer, and one of the players they should look at is Rooney. The England international may not be as dynamic as he was when he was younger, but manager Slaven Bilic could deploy him in the number 10 role and allow him freedom to go further up the pitch. The departure of Dimitri Payet in the January transfer has left a hole in the team; Rooney could fill it.

Newcastle United
Newcastle United are in the Championship at the moment, but it looks very likely that they will get promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season. Although Rafael Benitez’s side may not win the Championship title, they should at least finish second and clinch the final automatic promotion spot. Rooney is a player that the Magpies should look at in the summer transfer window. True, wages would be a problem, but if that particular issue can be resolved, then Newcastle would be getting a stunning footballer who could drive them towards the top ten. Rooney would be a marquee signing that would get the St. James’ Park faithful feeling optimistic about the 2017-18 campaign.

West Bromwich Albion
West Bromwich Albion have made great strides this season and are on course to finishing in the top half of the Premier League table. Tony Pulis’s side, though, are still not an attractive team to watch and lack pace up front. Rooney may not fill that particular gap in the team, but his arrival at The Hawthorns would be massive for the club. The 31-year-old would be the most high-profile player the Baggies have signed in recent years, and he would be the best player in the squad right away. Of course, wages and transfer fees are going to be a concern, but Rooney would excite the fans at The Hawthorns.

Should He Stay or Should He Go?

Wayne Rooney is one of the greatest players in the Premier League era and remains an important player for Manchester United. Rooney may be 31 years of age, but the England international is still going strong and has a fair few years left in him at the very top level.

Rooney has been on the books of United since 2004 when he joined from Premier League rivals Everton and has a contract with the Red Devils until June 2019. The forward has been linked with a move away from United, with clubs from China reported to be interested in his services.

The Chinese Super League is growing fast and the money being offered is astronomical – 33-year-old Argentine forward Carlos Tevez is earning £615,000 per week at Shanghai Shenhua – and one would understand if Rooney decided to quit United and move to the Asian country in the summer transfer window. However, it would be a massive loss to English and European football if that were to happen.

Rooney has shown time and time again that he can bounce back from disappointments and poor form. The 31-year-old has operated as a midfielder this season in order to get playing time at United – that is a sign of a player who is committed to playing no matter what. While one could argue that the forward has not been at his best for the past two or so years, he is too good to play in China at this stage of his career.

Will Wayne Rooney go to another Premier League club?

United do need to keep hold of Rooney in the summer. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan may be playing well this season and manager Jose Mourinho is having a positive impact at Old Trafford, but the presence of Rooney in the team is a sign of continuity. The Englishman is a leader both on the pitch and off it, and his experience in big matches and in critical situations is invaluable. In fact, it would not be a bad idea to bet here on United finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season with Rooney leading the charge.

Could Everton be an option?

Of course, things could happen between now and the end of the season, and United and Rooney could decide that parting company in the summer transfer window is best for both parties. If that were to happen, then Everton should make a move for the Englishman.

It was at Everton that Rooney started his professional club football career, and he could be tempted to return to Goodison Park. The Merseyside outfit are on the up and are aiming to break into the top four of the Premier League under Ronald Koeman in the coming years.

Koeman is a known admirer of Rooney and has spoken of working with him at Everton before. The veteran forward would be a key player at Goodison Park, and would bring a lot of experience and leadership skills. Perhaps wage could be an issue, but Everton could counter that by convincing Rooney to be part of a revolution at Goodison Park and help make the club one of the elite in England and perhaps even in Europe.

Rooney on England’s Corners

Wayne Rooney put himself in charge of the corners during Euro against the wishes of the then manager Roy Hodgson.

The man whom Hodgson preferred for the corners was Harry Kane and Rooney let the youngster do it versus Russia, but, he felt afterwards that the Spurs striker was not too enthusiastic about doing it in the following game.
Rooney is of the opinion that it should always have been him delivering the corner balls and not Kane because Kane was better suited to play with the delivered ball due to his wonderful aerial skills and should therefore remain inside the D only.

Rooney, however, denied that reversing the roles designated by the manager led to any kind of argument later on.
Rooney was quoted as, “Roy never gave an impression that he was upset about that. There was no argument. Everything was cool when we were back in the change room. You can do a thing or two on your own too. Not necessarily does it have to be the person designated for the duty if he is not too keen on it and I definitely thought Harry was not too keen on it.” Whilst Rooney probably went off to his hotel room to play the Guns N Roses pokie at Pokies Palace, Hodgson was left to explain the situation to the press.

Rooney also pointed out that the big reason the Three Lions went down to Iceland was that they could not remain as focussed as they had been in the initial parts of the game and started trying too hard for the leveller once they were trailed.

As stated by Rooney, there was a need to remain patient and to keep tiring Iceland after the score got 1-2. If it had been done, the leveller was only a matter of time, but, because of shifting away from the focus, he and his teammates made it difficult for themselves.

How vital is Wayne Rooney to England?

Love him or hate him at club level, Wayne Rooney is one of the all-time England greats. The Manchester United star has matured into a top talent on the international stage and recently surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton’s record goals tally of 49 goals for his country.

On his day, Rooney is almost unstoppable and, while he has lost a yard of pace in recent years, he has developed into a fantastic captain and leader – both on and off the field.

How vital is Wayne Rooney to England?

On his day, Rooney is almost unstoppable and, while he has lost a yard of pace in recent years, he has developed into a fantastic captain and leader – both on and off the field.

And in England’s opening clash with Russia, Roy Hodgson deployed Rooney in a deeper midfield role. The Three Lions captain had played just a handful of matches in that position for United at the end of the campaign but Rooney rolled back the years and produced a Paul Scholes-esque performance. The 30-year-old wasn’t able to make any lung-bursting runs from his deeper role but he was able to dictate the play until he was replaced by Jack Wilshere in the latter stages.

Flawless

While the Three Lions faltered in injury-time, Rooney’s near-flawless display was just one of many positives to take from England’s performance in Saturday’s draw with Russia in Marseille. If nothing else, the United star showed just how important he is and has now almost certainly cemented his place in Hodgson’s starting line-up for the remainder of the competition. After all, England have lacked a controlling presence in midfield for quite some time…

But Hodgson could also choose to deploy Rooney further forward if he absolutely needed to. For example, if England need a vital goal, the 30-year-old is certainly capable of popping up at the crucial moment. Rooney has carried England at times over the years and the United man may need to lift his team this summer. The 1-1 draw in Marseille was hurtful but England cannot afford to dwell on that result for too long – and Rooney knows it.

Vital tie

Now, Rooney and co must look towards their important clash with Wales on Thursday. Chris Coleman’s men will fancy their chances after beating Slovakia 2-1 in their opening clash and Rooney may be tasked with hindering Gareth Bale’s impact on proceedings. Bale was directly involved (either scored or assisted) in 82% of Wales’ goals during the qualifying campaign and the Real Madrid man netted their first in Saturday’s victory. If you stop Bale, you more or less stop Wales.

Rooney won’t specifically asked to man-mark Bale out of the game but the United captain will be wary of his ability to influence a match. The Welshman is one of the only true world class stars in the competition and England’s main man will need to ensure that Bale doesn’t run the show. If Rooney doesn’t track Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen, Wales could prosper and enjoy possession in advanced areas against the suspect English defence.

On his day, Rooney is capable of producing memorable moments – whether that’s upfront, in the ‘number 10’ role or in central midfield. The England captain can dictate proceedings against Wales and he is capable of leading the Three Lions to the latter stages of the competition. On current form, Rooney will be crucial to England’s chances of success this summer and the 30-year-old has the temperament to guide Hodgson’s men to glory.

Rooney’s performances aren’t the be all and end all by any stretch of the imagination but his efforts show just how much he is worth to the national team. While he hasn’t enjoyed a particularly successful campaign, Rooney has a unique knack of stepping up when it matters most – just watch how he led United to victory in the FA Cup final. And now, it is time for the whole world to see just how influential he is for England on the big stage…

UNITED STILL A FORCE

Wayne Rooney says that Manchester United’s future remains bright despite the club missing out on Champions League football for next season. After finishing only fifth in the table, United were unable to capitalise on clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea being extremely poor in the current campaign.

United went through poor patches of form at crucial stages in the season to end their hopes of qualification. Even though the club have just won the English FA Cup title, it does not compensate for the lack of a prestigious tournament like the Champions League.

UNITED STILL A FORCE

United went through poor patches of form at crucial stages in the season to end their hopes of qualification. Even though the club have just won the English FA Cup title, it does not compensate for the lack of a prestigious tournament like the Champions League.

Moreover, the finances from just appearing in the group stages of the Champions League is expected to exceed £ 40 million from next season onwards. Missing out on this revenue – and seeing one of their rivals pick up the same – will be extremely hard to take for United even with the massive financial resources.

It also allows rivals crucial time and money to improve their squad. United’s hopes of qualification came to an end after a 3-2 loss against West Ham.

The club felt that they could have done better had it not been for the absence of Rooney due to injury at crucial stages. Rooney said that whilst the club has made large amount of progress with regard to promoting youngsters to the first-team, the fact that they haven’t qualified for the Champions League is a major disappointment, tempered only by the fact that he will be playing football again almost instantly, as England begin their Euro 2016 campaign. Tickets are still available to watch Rooney & Co through this link.

“It’s always exciting working with young players. People forget how young Anthony Martial is (20). The club bought him so he hasn’t come through the academy, but he’s still only a really young lad. He’s still learning, improving and the same goes with the likes of Memphis Depay, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, so it’s an exciting time for the club. Hopefully they keep improving as players and it’ll be a really bright future for Manchester United,” said Rooney, whose place in the England squad is under threat due to poor form.

ROONEY FINALLY SET TO PLAY UNDER MOURINHO

English International, Wayne Rooney is finally set to pay under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United as the Portuguese tactician will be announced soon as the third coach since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

When he finally takes charge at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho will have a whole host of problems to sort out.

ROONEY FINALLY SET TO PLAY UNDER MOURINHO

When he finally takes charge at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho will have a whole host of problems to sort out.

Despite the huge spending under Louis van Gaal, Mourinho takes over a United side without Champions League football, with an inexperienced squad, and with just one FA Cup to show for the three years of football since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

On Mou’s arrival, he would have to answer questions regarding keeping Wayne Rooney who is captain at both club and international level who is not only uncertain of his place in the team, but also of his best position.

If he is a striker, then only one goal since February, and only eight in the league this season, is not the sort of return that Mourinho can tolerate. As a midfielder he has rarely convinced, and doesn’t suit the template of the type of player the former Chelsea boss usually employs. Fortunately for England’s all-time leading goalscorer, the arrival of Mourinho might be the perfect tonic.

There are few managers who have been more openly enthusiastic about Rooney’s talent, nor more confident in his ability. With Mourinho installed, Rooney has been catapulted up the top of the top goalscorer betting index on StanJames, with on Kane ahead of him.

With Rooney more matured now and options that exist in Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, Mourinho would be faced with the huge task of keeping the player and using him if he does. He criticized Roy Hodgson for using the player wide instead of in a central forward position in the 2014 World Cup for England. With a huge task ahead of the tactician, there remain concerns that he would keep the player and in which role, despite being a fan.

RED CARD COSTS UNITED

The Dutch coach of Manchester United, Louis van Gaal was clearly frustrated about the defeat that his team suffered against West Bromwich Albion and after the match reached it’s end, it didn’t take long for Louis van Gaal to voice his thoughts about what happened in the game and he believes that the crucial moment of the entire game was Juan Mata’s dismissal after having received his 2nd yellow card in the first half.

RED CARD COSTS UNITED

Juan Mata’s dismissal forced Manchester United on having to play with 10 players in the pitch and they just couldn’t hold their ground for the entirety of the match as Salomon Rondon capitalized on the numeric advantage that his team had as he scored the only goal of the entire match at the 66th minute.

Salomon Rondon was left completely unmarked and this allowed the Venezuelan player to take control of the ball and slot it past the likes of David de Gea, this occurred when a cross was launched in the path of Rondon who made no mistake in firing it home in the 2nd half.

‘’The first was a stupid yellow card. You know it is a yellow card in advance. When you have a yellow card you have to take care of that. The referee can always give another yellow card then and then it is a red card. The second you know you already have one so you have to take that into account. You damage the team.” Louis van Gaal told the media following the defeat of his team.

He also likened the chase for the Champions League to a horse race and admitted that if United was one of the Gold Cup competitors, they would probably be ‘Road to Riches’ – a horse with a good chance but high odds on StanJames.

“The decision was the turning point in the match. It is very difficult to play 10 against 11 for 60 minutes and that is the reason why we lost this game. We did not give many chances away. West Brom scored out of three chances and for us it is a big disappointment.’’

Louis van Gaal continued on saying that Juan Mata rightfully deserved the yellow cards but that the referee should also take into consideration the players who he gives the cards to as Mata is a player who never before in his career, had received a red card and is someone that doesn’t want to hurt anyone.

Despite all of Louis van Gaal’s protestations, it won’t make any difference as there is nothing that the Dutch coach do to change what has already happened but nonetheless, United still have a chance of snatching up a Champions League spot but can’t afford any further disappointing results.

ROONEY BACKS GIGGS

Wayne Rooney reckons that Ryan Giggs is a suitable man to be appointed as the next Red Devils manager.

Giggs is currently in charge at Old Trafford, but, only temporarily as the Manchester United board is believed to be looking for an experienced man for the job.

However, United’s start under Giggs was brilliant yesterday as they thrashed Norwich City by 4-0 with Rooney and Mata scoring a couple of goals each.

If Giggs guides United to similar sort of victories in the remaining three games as well, he would surely force the board to give a thought about him too as far as the appointment of the full time manager is concerned.

Apart from Rooney, several other players from the Red Devils camp are also quite impressed with Giggs and are in favour of him being given the full time job.

Rooney was looking very happy after that win against Norwich and rightly so because United has been in news only for wrong reasons recently. So, securing 3 points in that manner would surely have brought some relief into the group.

Speaking to the press, Rooney said, “The last few days have been very, very difficult and thus, we needed something like this to boost ourselves. It’s really vital to finish on a high note.”

When asked about Giggs, the veteran striker said, “He’s been superb since the time he has been given the responsibility. He has been at the club since a long time. So, he has a good idea of things over here and that’s why I think he is suitable for the manager’s post, but, then again, any decision in that regard will be taken by the board.”

United’s next match is against Sunderland on 3rd of next month at Old Trafford.

6TH HOME DEFEAT

Manchester United suffered their 6th home defeat when playing against Manchester City and when the match concluded, Wayne Rooney went on saying that one of the reasons on why things have taken such a turn in this season is because the opposition they face in Old Trafford are simply not scared of playing anymore.

“I don’t know but it’s not good enough. We can’t lose six homes games in a season and we have to put that right, and make this a place which teams fear again. It’s probably been the story of our season so far that we’ve got a couple of good results and then one which sets us back a bit. We know we have to respond. It’s a bad night for us all but we have to move on.” Rooney said.

According to the English forward of Manchester United, the ‘fear factor’ of playing in the home turf of the club is gone which was something that gave them a big advantage the previous seasons.

Rooney is hoping that his teammates can bounce back from their defeat against their rivals Manchester City and perform well for their upcoming Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

“No-one likes to lose a derby game they’re big games and they’re great to win, but when you lose it’s not a great feeling. For the fans and for us, we have to win more and stay together’’. Rooney added.

Manchester United will certainly need to bounce back from their defeat if they want to have any chance of getting a positive result against Bayern Munich. The German club has already been crowned as the champions of their league after rampaging past everything and everyone in their path which led them on securing 19 consecutive league victories as well as securing the Bundesliga trophy for another consecutive season.

MATA BRINGS HOPE

Juan Mata’s arrival to Manchester United has not only given the fans of the club a glimpse of hope that Moyes might just be able to finish this Premier League campaign in the top 5 spots and hopefully secure a spot in the Champions League of the next season.

Unfortunately for Manchester United, Juan Mata’s introduction at the club has not made the initial spark that everyone was wishing for. During the 1st match that Van Persie, Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney played together in the same starting lineup for David Moyes, they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Stoke City.

Even though the Spanish midfielder has not made the same splash that Van Persie did during his debut season with Manchester United, Rooney remains optimistic that all 3 attacking powerhouses can form a successful trio that can push Manchester United into the higher spots of the Premier League.

“Obviously I’ve known Robin and played with him for quite a while now and for Juan Mata to come in, you can see his intelligence as a football player,” said Rooney.
“He’s comfortable on the ball and he can score and create goals for us, so it’s really exciting for myself and the rest of the team to have him come in and hopefully we can all work well and play well together

“When you’ve got players with his ability, with Robin’s ability, and the other players we’ve got on the team, who can all help us be successful and win games. That’s what we want to do and try and be entertaining at the same time.” Rooney said as he downplayed the situation that United are going through.

Juan Mata arrived from Chelsea with a price tag of €37.1 million as Moyes was desperate to find players that can solve some of their main problems that United has been suffering from in this season.
