UNITED THROUGH

Manchester United has defeated Reading FC in a FA Cup match played at Old Trafford on Tuesday. United won the match by 2-1. With this victory, United made its way into the sixth round of the tournament.

United got a very good start in the match and could have taken the lead pretty early in the match, but, Chicharito’s flat shot was blocked by the Reading goalkeeper. United still had chance on the rebound, but, Danny Welbeck missed the opportunity.

Just a few seconds later, Welbeck again got a chance when Ashley Young passed the ball to him near the penalty area, but, Welbeck’s low shot went straight into the hands of the Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici and that chance also went begging.

Reading also had the chance of getting ahead in the first half, but, it was United’s come back man Nemanja Vidic who prevented them from taking the lead by clearing Nicky Shorey’s shot.

Neither of the two teams managed to take the lead in the first 45 minutes and the score was 0-0 at the half time break.

United eventually took the lead in the 69th minute of the match. It was a fine pass from Antonio Valencia to Nani who controlled the ball and then blasted a volley straight into the net to take the Red Devils ahead.

Just three minutes later, the lead of United got doubled. Chicharito scored the second goal for United. Nani was the one who set up the goal with a cross from the right hand side and Chicharito capitalized on that with a header.

The match got a bit tight when Jobi McAnuff opened the scoring for Reading in the 81st minute.

However, after McAnuff’s goal, the United defenders tightened their game and didn’t let Reading equalize the scores in the remaining time.

United will face Queens Park Rangers in its next match on Saturday.
