Manchester City coming back to Form this Season

Manchester City might not have played great football for the starting few weeks of the season, but, now, they are coming to their own.

Not only have they started going up north in their domestic league, they have made a comeback in Europe too. In fact, they have managed to make the pre quarter final round in the Champions League.

The other night, playing away at Roma, the Sky Blues excelled. A 2-0 victory saw them ending at no. 2 in their group.

Four weeks back, it was looking like an almost impossible thing for City to be able to clear the group stage in Europe. After having played their 4 games, they only had 2 points and they had to face Bayern Munich, arguably the best team in the group, once.

But, not only did City defeat Munich; they carried the same intensity in the following game too and defeated Roma convincingly to take their points’ tally to 8 and also, to improve their goal differential to +1.

Goal differential was not a factor at the end though as City left Roma behind on the basis of points.
Roma finished with 5 points only. If the game between Roma and City had proven to be a draw, then, that goal differential would have been considered.

City, however, would have been through in that situation as well. Their goal differential was -1 ahead of the last game compared to Roma’s -4. In case of a draw, the goal differential of both the teams would have remained the same.

Roma, which finished at no. 3, qualified for the Europa League, while, CSKA Moscow did not get anything.

CSKA Moscow had defeated City at Etihad on 5th of November. But, they couldn’t win either of their last two games and had to finish at the bottom.
